Rodeo Fine Homes and Newmarket host sneak peek of EcoLogic homes

NEWMARKET, Ontario, November 3, 2008 - The Town of Newmarket and Rodeo Fine Homes will host a sneak peek of Newmarket's EcoLogic homes, Canada's greenest residential community on Thursday, November 6, 2008.


WHAT:

• Peter Love, Chief Energy Conservation Officer of Ontario, will present a certificate to the Town of Newmarket and Rodeo Fine Homes in recognition of their unique partnership in sustainable building.
• Speakers: Peter Love;  Mayor Tony Van Bynen; Mark Salerno, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)
• The presentation will be followed by a sneak peek of one of Newmarket's EcoLogic homes, which is more than 80 per cent complete. Environmental builders from Michigan and representatives from Green Built Michigan will be touring the site as part of a trade mission hosted by CMHC to share best practices in environmentally sustainable design. This tour will showcase Newmarket's EcoLogic's leading-edge, eco-friendly amenities, and explain how they reduce the carbon footprint of each house.

Thursday, November 6, 2008, 2:30 pm

WHERE:
Quaker Trail (located directly behind the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Drive), Newmarket, Ontario (map attached). Parking will be available on Nellie Little Crescent and at the Magna Centre. A shuttle bus will also be available.  It will leave the Town of Newmarket Municipal offices (395 Mulock Drive) at 2 p.m., with a pickup at the Magna Centre at 2:15 p.m.

Construction on the 34-unit EcoLogic community began in 2007. It is the first residential development in Canada to be built entirely to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum specifications.  

Newmarket's EcoLogic subdivision is made up of leading-edge homes that achieve and exceed specific environmental targets, including a 50 per cent reduction in household water draws, a 35 per cent reduction in overall discharge flows and a 60 per cent reduction in solid waste, greenhouse gas production and energy consumption compared to conventional homes.
